Explanation of Online Success
Factors
Time Availability
Online courses require at least as much time as on-campus courses. Students
report spending more time and learning more in online courses
Reliable Internet Access
If this is a problem, please contact the Student Computer Center at 714-892-7711
ext 50111 to register for the high speed internet access on campus
Reading Comprehension
Much of the class information is from the textbook or in articles on the
web site. Therefore good reading skills are important.
Online Skills
You will need to know how to use a wordprocessing program, e-mail, and internet
browser. There are classes in the Computer and Library Departments in these
areas.
Independent Work Style
Online courses reqauire more self-direction and motivation since face-to-face
accountability is greatly reduced
Time Management
Online courses offer students flexibility to better coordinate with their
commitments at work and at home; however, this requires more self-discipline.
Procrastination is the most common pitfall in taking an online course. Decide
today to take steps to prevent this stumbling block.
