Depending on how your course is organized, you may access your assignments in different ways. You may find them on the course homepage, and in some cases, you may also find links to assignments within the learning modules. Mostly, however, you will access your assignments directly from the course tools menu. Within the assignments area, you'll notice various tabs: inbox, submitted, graded, and published.
The inbox contains all your incomplete assignments. Assignments here might be new, or those returned to you by your instructor for further editing. In my inbox, you see three assignments and important details about each. The first, the weblink assignment was due on february 20th, and is now marked with the word late. in some cases, your instructor may provide a grace period, after the official due date of the assignment, wherein you may still turn in that assignment. You may only get partial credit, but you may still submit it. Other instructors may not allow late work. If this is the case, the assignments will simply disappear from your inbox after the due date.
Second on the list, we see the assignment titled "Essay 3." You'll notice the status for this assignment is: individual, in progress, attempt number two. The word "individual" simply indicates that this is not a group assignment. "In progress" means that I have submitted my assignment already, but since I did not complete it to my instructor's satisfaction, it has been returned to me for further editing, and this is currently my second attempt. Not all instructors will allow you a second chance at an assignment though, so please be sure you have completed it to your satisfaction before submitting.
To view the details of each assignment, click the hyperlinked title. Here you will find instructions for the assignment, and in some cases, related files will be attached for download. Please be sure to review all instructions and attached files before submitting your assignment. I'll click the breadcrumb link up top to return to the Assignments area and view the other tabs.
The Submitted tab contains assignments that you have turned in, but your instructor has not yet graded. In most cases, you will only be able to view the work you have already submitted, but in rare cases, your instructor may have allowed you to take a submission back to the inbox for further editing. You'll find that option, if available, by clicking on the Action Menu. Once your work has been graded by the instructor, it will appear in the graded tab. To view any details, click on the hyperlinked title of the assignment. Here you will see your grade, the original instructions for the assignment, your submission, and any comments provided by your instructor. I'll click OK to return to the assignments area.
In some cases, an instructor may publish an assignment to be viewed by the entire class. These assignments would be located under the "Published" tab.
