Learning Modules

Video Transcript

Many instructors use Learning Modules to present content in their courses. To view the Learning Modules for this course, I'll click the "Learning Modules" link from the left-hand menu. Next, I'll select a Learning Module to view. (In this case, we'll choose Chapter 1.)

Learning Modules can be navigated using the table of contents at left, or the action menu in the upper right. On the left, you may click any link in the table of contents. By default, the Learning Module often loads the first page as soon as you enter. After reading the lecture for Chapter 1, I could continue on to on to anything else in the Learning Module, using these links.

Some of these links may seem to load only a blank page, but this actually means that a file is downloading to your computer. If you do not see the download window, or don't know where the file went, please check your Desktop and your "My Downloads" folder. Depending on how you have configured your internet browser, downloadable files may be going anywhere on your hard drive. Thus, if you can't find the file on the Desktop, or in the "My Downloads" folder, you may also want to check "My Documents" or run a search on your computer to find it.

To view the files in their intended order, you may also use the navigation in the upper right hand corner. Click the arrow icons to proceed to the next page, or return to the previous.

Other icons which may appear in the action menu allow the following:

  • To print any or all pages within a Learning Module, click the printer icon. Here, you may click to check-mark any items you want to include in your printed file. Once you have made your selections, click "Continue" at the bottom. You will see a print preview of the compiled pages that you have selected. If this looks good to you, click "Print." You may also click the "Save to File" button to download all of the information, compiled together, to a file on your computer.
  • In some cases, you are able to take notes within Blackboard for each Learning Module, using the "Notes" icon. You can save these, and then view them in your notebook later.
  • You may also have an icon that allows you to "Bookmark" a page in a Learning Module, so that you can come back to it for reference later.
  • Lastly, you may see an icon for "Goals." Clicking it will display a list of Goals (or Student Learning Outcomes) that this Learning Module satisfies.
